Having already secured promotion to Division 1 of the Middlesex Sunday League, the curtain came down on the season in a most exciting game against Washington CC. In what might be his last game for the club, skipper for the day Mendis put the home side in on a warm sunny afternoon and their openers made steady progress against a tight Grace's attack but were lucky to survive a couple of chances that went to hand, before Bielby removed them both. A stand of 70 for the fourth wicket put Washington on course for a good score, before a blistering 49 off only 19 balls by Hope took the home side past two hundred, finishing on 240-9 with Shofiq claiming four wickets including bowling Hope (to everyone's relief), Bielby and Graces' own Hope two each, and Mappin one.
In reply, the Grace's response could hardly have got off to a worse start and despite a good scoring rate wickets were tumbling at an alarming rate. At 43-5 the game looked beyond them but cometh the hour, cometh the skipper for the day and despite being hampered by housemaid's elbow, Mendis began to play the knock of the season, most ably supported by Bielby. Keeping up with the required run rate the added 112 before Bielby was out lbw for 33. The momentum was maintained as Camberwell joined his skipper. A beautifully struck six took Mendis to his hundred but next ball trying a delicate cut he got the faintest of touches and was caught at the wicket. Camberwell kept the score moving but in trying for a boundary in the last over was bowled for 36 and Grace's finished on 232 for 9, just eight runs short.
