On Sunday Grace's met a depleted Winsley side in a 35 overs match and on losing the toss were invited to bat, a decision that looked good as Grace's slumped to 36 for 3.
At this stage Mendis joined acting skipper Shofiq and with some breathtaking strokes put the Winsley bowlers to the sword. Mendis reached the highest individual score for the club of 140 not out, and together with Shofiq making a fine 77 not out, the pair also achieved the highest partnership for Grace's of 217.
Chasing the huge Grace's score of 253, Swinburne, who had changed sides to play for his home town side and opened the batting for them, was soon in full flow. A second wicket partnership of 79 put pressure on the bowlers, but then three quick wickets changed the situation and when Swinburne was run out for an excellent 87, the game was up for the home side, who eventually fell short by some 38 runs. Mendis completed an outstanding all round performance by claiming 3 wickets for 28. A great weekend for all concerned.
