London Theatres CC v Grace's CC, 30 May 2005

On a gloriously sunny day, Grace's took on new opponents, London Theatres, recommended by Actors Anonymous. Grace's won the toss and opened with Henderson (10) and Camberwell (50) who both defended and attacked cautiously whilst the opening bowlers got through their entire 16 overs in one spell. Once gone, the runs overfloweth. Mendis with 86 carried on where he left yesterday, smacking the ball to the boundary at will, finally being caught off a full toss on the boundary. Mercuri (12), Rishafi (47 not out in 18 balls), and Howden (37 not out in just as few balls) demonstrated the depth of Grace's batting as 274 runs were scored in 40 overs.

A lovely cricket tea followed and then London Theatres' turn to bat, needing over 7 runs per over. Curtis took the first wicket and Rishafi took the important wickets of the most impressive London Theatre batsmen (who had scored 90 and 150 in their previous game). With Howden (our old Fox) back at his best, bowling his nagging line and length with varying degrees of pace, their batsmen were left to struggle on a slow pitch, having to force the ball to get any reasonable score.

Damage done, Bielby used the remaining overs to give his bowlers some much needed bowling practice as Grace's cantered to victory by 122 runs. This theatrical bunch of cricketers played the game in a friendly talkative manner. Whilst we batted, we got all the advice and encouragement we needed in a jovial fun atmosphere, playing mostly for fun but in a competitive way. Well done once again Grace's.
