Foreign & Commonwealth Office CC v Grace's CC
14 May 2005

Grace's game in Chiswick, against the Foreign & Commonwealth Office, sounded like a sensible affair, with our skipper playing for the opposition and Swinburne, Grace's Vice-Captain, taking over the honours for Grace's.

In a 40-overs-a-side game, Grace's lost the toss and were asked to bat, reaching 53 for one after 15 overs, Camberwell on 23 and Swinburne 24. A quick fire 21 by Page and then a clatter of wickets left Grace's at 87-6, in trouble but not down and out.

Mendis and Rishafi both came to the wicket and proceeded to caress the ball to all parts of the ground, and set a new club record partnership of 160 before Rishafi was out for 60. Mendis reached 96 not out with 8 fours and 3 sixes. Graces closed their innings on the score of 253 for 7.

The Grace's bowling attack failed to strike early and the FCO made great leaps and bounds towards the target. Some poor fielding and dropped chances did not help. Mendis took off the wicketkeeping gloves to take 3 quick wickets, including Rutledge who had scored 129 but nothing could stop the Foreign office as they cantered to an easy victory with 3 overs to spare.
