Sporting Alfas CC v Grace's CC, 1 May 2004

Grace's 121 all out, Sporting Alfas 122-3. Sporting Alfas won by seven wickets

For the first match of the Spanish tour, Grace's took on the powerful Saturday side of Sporting Alfas. The home side won the toss and elected to put Grace's in to bat. Sporting Alfas' bowling was relentless and merciless. Grace's batsmen battled hard to stay at the crease and amass a decent total, but wickets fell regularly and we slumped to 121 all out off 29.4 overs. Ross (22) and Curtis (20) (that's how many runs they got, not their age) were top-scorers.

The Grace's total was never going to be defendable against the multi-talented Sporting Alfas line up. The home side cruised to victory in the seventeenth over for the loss of only three wickets. Shofiq, Curtis and Dekock were the pick of the bowlers, with Decock returning respectable figures of 2-18 off 2.3 overs before retiring injured. The Grace's team went off to the nets (and then the Benidorm nightlife) hoping for better things the following day.
