Grace's 123 all out, Pacific 124-8. Grace's lost by two wickets.
Grace's opened the 2004 season against Pacific on a bright and breezy afternoon at Wray Crescent. Pacific won the toss and put us in to bat. Swinburne soon found himself back in the hutch, caught and bowled for one. Ross and Stockinger then made useful contributions of 15 and 20 respectively, and Rishafi top scored with a fine 41. There then followed an ugly collapse with only Shofiq of the remaining batsmen reaching double figures and Curtis registering a golden duck. Grace's were all out for 123, which looked like being a well below-par score in the conditions.
Grace's fought back hard in the field though. Curtis and Shofiq opened the attack and soon had the Pacific openers heading back to the pavilion. Former skipper Curtis, making up for his golden duck, made further inroads into the Pacific batting line-up and finished with figures of 4-36. The Grace's bowling was tidy and wickets fell regularly. Pacific were chasing with the utmost caution and were soon up against the run rate as the final twenty overs ticked by. Mendis came into the attack and pegged them back even further. With one over to go, Grace's needed two wickets for victory, Pacific four runs. A fine cover drive for four by top scorer Murray (50 not out) off the third ball of the final over saw Pacific home. But it had taken the home side 45.3 overs to amass 124 runs, and Grace's were able to take some heart from their efforts to defend such a low score.
